Wild Alaskan Fish

The CSA offers wild Alaskan fish year round through Prime Select Seafoods of Cordova, Alaska. Alaska is home to some of the world’s best managed and most sustainable fisheries. Prime Select is committed to conserving the species they catch by adhering to strict fishing quotas for the pristine waters of the Copper River Delta, Prince William Sound and the Gulf of Alaska.

Copper River’s fish are harvested from the icy waters of the Northern Gulf of Alaska.  The Copper River Fishery has existed uninterrupted since 1889 and the salmon caught are from abundant, healthy natural runs.  Copper River is committed to not fishing for or selling endangered salmon.

Here are some of the fish we offer:

Sockeye or Red Salmon

Sockeye salmon is caught in the Copper River generally in June and July. Sockeye is the third most common Pacific salmon species. They can be as long as 33 inches and weigh four to 14 pounds.

Coho or Silver Salmon

Our coho salmon is caught in the Copper River generally in July, August, and September. Coho grow to an average of 28 inches and weigh seven to 11 pounds, occasionally reaching up to 36 pounds.

King Salmon

Our king salmon is caught in the Copper River.  King salmon grow to an average of 33 to 36 inches but occasionally grow up to 58 inches.  They average 10 to 50 pounds in weight but can reach 130 pounds.

Halibut

Our halibut is caught in the Gulf of Alaska and Prince William Sound generally around March. Halibut is the largest flat fish earning them the nickname “Cow of the Sea”. They grow to an average of 24 to 30 pounds, but ones as large as 734 pounds have been caught.  Halibut meat has a dense, firm texture similar to chicken and has an ultra-low fat content.  It has a clean taste and requires little seasoning.

Pacific Cod

Our Pacific cod is caught in the Gulf of Alaska and Prince William Sound generally around March. Pacific cod can be as long as 20 inches and weigh up to 33 pounds.  Cod meat is moist and flaky when cooked and has a mild flavor and low fat content.

Rockfish

Our Rockfish is caught in the Gulf of Alaska and Prince William Sound generally around March. They weigh an average of five to 10 pounds and can grow up to 36 inches long.
