ABOUT

The Seeds To Supper Program brings together young people from different backgrounds to make a difference in the lives of people in our communities. By growing fresh, organic fruits and vegetables young people work together as a team to learn farming and culinary skills, experience nature, explore issues in community nutrition and health, challenge themselves, and have fun!

Who Do We Enroll?

• Young people ages 15-18.
• A mix of high achievers, youth struggling to get by, and youth walking the middle road; our goal is to break down the wall that exists between these youth by having them work together.
• We are looking for a commitment to the mission of the Seeds To Supper Program, and a willingness to work hard.

What Do They Do?
• Work three days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) for six weeks in July and August.
• Learn to grow a variety of crops at Catalpa Ridge Farm in rural Sussex County, New Jersey and at La Plaza Cultural Community Garden on East 9th Street & Avenue C in Manhattan.
• Learn culinary skills using fresh organic produce at Organic Soul Cafˇ located at Sixth Street Community Center.
• Help run a community supported agriculture coop and market and do outreach in the neighborhood.
• Attend workshops on issues in sustainable agriculture, economics, health and the environment.
• Swim, picnic and enjoy other recreational activities with participants and staff.

The Seeds To Supper Program is highly structured and supervised by professional staff. Participants receive a $75 stipend every week, which is paid bi-weekly.
