Composting Program

Composting is a great way to reduce your waste and help foster a greener and more sustainable environment in New York City. Currently, Sixth Street runs a composting program in partnership with the community garden El Jardín del Paraiso on E 5th Street between Aves C & D, CSA members can bring their food scraps to the garden to be composted and used to produce food and flowers for the community to enjoy. For more information on how and what to compost, check out the Lower East Side Ecology Center's website here.

NYC Green Compost Map

The NYC Green Compost map is a live, interactive map that shows composting locations around the city. You can add photos, videos or comments to the sites shown on the map. If you know of a compost site not shown on the map, you can add it by, clicking the "Suggest a Site" tab on the full map page here, or do so on your mobile device here. The full map page also has a legend explaining the icons shown, as well as open maps made in 40 other countries.

For more information about the Green Map system, contact the founder and Sixth Street CSA member Wendy Brawer at (212) 674-1631.
