Sixth Street Youth Program (SSYP), the after school program at Sixth Street Community Center is partnering with Adam Cardone to provide Magic Arts Classes and a Dungeon Club for youth in grades 3 to 5. Classes will be taught by Cardone and will be held on the 3rd floor of our community center.

WHAT IS DUNGEON CLUB?
Problem solving, team work, reading comprehension, story telling, math skills, drawing, and slaying monsters........ sound fun?

Old fashioned role playing games have been making a comeback and these games are a perfect after school activity!
In the class the students will learn how to role play but also how to Dungeon Master.

There are many different role playing games out there and in this class a few different systems will be used, one of them is a Cartoon World, the other is a Fantasy Sword and Sorcery setting. The only thing needed is pencils and a note book. Dice will be provided.

Cardone has been a Dungeon Master for over 30 years and loves teaching people how to play analog games!

Monday afternoon Dungeon Club will run from September 9, 2019 until January 27, 2020— for a total of 16 weeks.

THE MYSTERY OF MAGIC
In this course the students will lean what it takes to be a master magician.
Most people think that learning the trick is all it takes to fool an audience but Cardone will teach the real secrets that can't be bought in a magic store.  Sleight of hand, timing, voice  and speech, pantomime, psychology, magic history, and the basics of theatre arts will be taught to make you not only a magician , but a master entertainer.

Beware , some of the tricks taught will be easy but some will require serious practice.
Do you have what it takes to be a master of the impossible?
Come find out.

Cardone has been performing magic on a professional level for 30 years and holds a BFA in Theatre Arts from Carnegie Mellon University.

SSYP WORKSHOPS OFFERED THROUGH OUR YOUTH PROGRAMS

ARTS WORKSHOPS

Taught by professional artists and experienced teaching artists, we explore a diversity of mediums such as acrylic, textiles, ink, clay and watercolor. Past projects have included batik dye, tye-dye, pillow making, weaving, mixed-media, Suminagashi water ink prints, collograph and lino-cut printmaking.

URBAN SUSTAINABILITY

Our urban sustainability curriculum is rooted in inquiry, exploration and practice. We believe that exposing youth to sustainable ideas and approaches at an early age can have a profound impact on how they operate within greater society later on in life. This year our youth program took on a big challenge, working to become the first zero waste after school in the Lower East Side!

URBAN FARMING

Our students have access to the 5th Street Farm located on Earth School's rooftop one day a week. Students learn how to maintain an urban rooftop farm and harvest produce from the earth. We will often use fresh veggies and herbs that we harvest up on the garden in addition to our center's CSA produce in cooking workshops!

SOCIAL CHANGE

Our students are introduced to several key social and environmental justice issues that affect the local community. We creatively engage t h e m through kid-led, inquiry based projects with local businesses and organizations. The curriculum is centered around empowering young people to be change-makers in their communities.
